I have compared several schools before my decision. I want to learn Chinese well and I also like to know Chinese culture. And I think the attitude of the teacher, the consultant here are all very positive. I like to stay with them and get the care from th
I used to go from Classes in Siena Italy to Barcelona. It was normally fun because you got to meet lots
of people and everyone shared the food they brought along. The cars had compartment that sat 6 to 8 people.
The last time I made that trek there was standing room only. It was uncomfortable but we laughed a lot. The
last time I did it there was standing room only. A couple of Swiss students would jump out at each stop and get
wine bread etc. I’ve not taken a long distance train since the air line strike in the 60’s across the United States.
My guitar teacher Oscar Ghiglia had to get back to Rome for concerts. We were in Kansas so I was sent to
accompany him as at that time I’m in China now and we were trying to get to Guangzhou from Shanghai. I
would have flown as the flights are inexpensive but I was with two Indians from the south of India. One is an
experienced traveler and the other has never been out of his village. His father is the owner of the company we
are representing. With his inexperience and lack of available transportation he bought us standing room only
tickets. It was a total of 16 hours with no seats and an overbooked train. The fun of it was traveling with all the
locales. They were very cordial. We were the only foreigner of course and just about all were going to the Canton
Fai but no seats were available. Some sat in the sink, everyone ended up falling asleep on top of everyone else.
Everyone was in good humor except for the complaints of how uncomfortable we all were. I sat on a suit case
like I did in the sixties. Most of the Chinese has special little stools they packed up in their suitcases. Not sleeping
for twenty four hours was the worst part which is taking me two days to recover. 50 years have gone by since I
went standing room only on an overnight train. It was a fun experience but there is a reason why I haven’t done
something like that for 5o years!
